Taipei - (Philippine Smart-Gilas) The Alaska point guard, LA Tenorio scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter including the crucial shot he made in the final 17 seconds of the game which lift the Philippine SMART-Gilas to the win. It was a heart-stopping victory of Smart Gilas with only one point against the taller players of United States, 76-75, in the recently concluded 34th edition of Jones Cup.

LA Tenorio who was struggling on the early part of game made a great comeback and helped to trim down their 13-point second half deficit, 59-46 in favor of United States. With 36 seconds left in the final quarter, Coach Chot Reyes made a play for LA Tenorio for an 18-foot jumper which eventually the game-winning shot.

The win gave the Filipinos a tournament-best 7-1 card and the country’s first title in one of Asia’s most popular events since 1998, when the Centennial team handled by Tim Cone triumphed.
